Your Beach Buddy Guide  ·  Seagrove Beach, Eastern 30A

Deer Lake State Park

197 acres of state-owned land with nearly 1,400 ft of Gulf frontage, and a long boardwalk to get there. It’s not a free county access — here’s how it actually works.

A State Park, Not a Free RBA

Like Grayton Beach and Topsail Hill, Deer Lake is run by Florida State Parks — a gated entrance, a per-vehicle entry fee, and a genuinely different feel than the free county RBAs. What you get for it: 197 acres, nearly 1,400 ft of Gulf frontage, and a stretch of beach that’s less crowded than most 30A parks.

Entry — The Honest Version

Gates Close When Full — and Stay Closed

The parking lot’s gates close when full and stay closed, so this isn’t a park you can count on getting into at the last minute on a busy day. Verify: current entry fee amount before you go — Florida state park fees can change.

  • Opens at 8 a.m.
  • Restrooms and an outdoor rinse shower
  • Picnic pavilion on-site
  • A long 1,760 ft boardwalk with shaded benches along the way, plus a ramp at the end — easy for strollers and beach wagons
What’s Actually There

197 Acres, and Genuinely Uncrowded

Deer Lake State Park covers 197 acres of state-owned land with nearly 1,400 ft of Gulf frontage — and per the honest local read, it tends to be less crowded than most of the other state parks on 30A. If you’ve found Grayton Beach or Topsail Hill too busy, this is worth a look.

“197 acres, a mile-plus of boardwalk to get there, and genuinely one of the less crowded parks on 30A.”

The Beach Itself

Room to Sit, State Park Rules Apply

Because this is a state park and not a county RBA, a couple of the rules that apply elsewhere on 30A work differently here:

  • Bonfires: not allowed. Florida State Parks prohibit open beach fires here — this is a flat no, not the county’s permit system.
  • Dogs: not allowed on the beach at all.
  • Lifeguards: none on duty here — always check conditions before you get in the water.
If You Want Options

Santa Clara and Seagrove Are Close By

If you’d rather skip the entry fee, Santa Clara RBA 17 and the brand-new Seagrove Regional Beach Access are both free county RBAs nearby, with their own parking and amenities.

Know Before You Go

  • This is a paid state park, not a free RBA. Verify the current entry fee before you go.
  • Gates close when the lot is full — and stay closed. Don’t count on last-minute entry on busy days.
  • No beach bonfires, and no dogs on the beach. Florida State Parks rules, not the county’s.
  • No lifeguards — always check conditions before swimming.
