Most of Walton County’s beach-access lots are free. But the three big park & ride hubs — Grayton, 393, and Van Ness Butler — now charge non-residents about $15/day in peak season (per Walton County). The tram itself is still free. Tap any lot for Directions, or find the closest ones to you.
🚧 Will I get towed?
Short answer: only where it’s posted — with one big exception. Here’s the honest version (Walton County Ordinance 2011-01):
- Posted “Tow-Away Zone” signs mean it. The county tows where those signs are up — often on neighborhood streets whose residents asked for them.
- The real risk is blocking traffic. Even with no sign, if your car blocks a travel lane, a driveway, or a sight line, it can be towed immediately as a hazard. This is what catches people who park half on 30A when a lot is full.
- Never park on the 30A path. The paved multi-use path isn’t a shoulder — stopping on it is a violation and a fast way to get towed or ticketed.
- If you do get towed, you’re not at their mercy. Walton County caps what a tow company can charge for a non-consensual tow. Call the number on the tow-away sign to find your vehicle.
When in doubt, use a marked lot or a park & ride below — and check current signage before you leave the car.
Here’s what most visitors miss: the tram is free — it’s the parking that costs. Walton County runs free beach trams (the “Beach Park & Ride”) from three hubs, so you can park once and skip the packed 30A beach-parking lots. You only pay to park at the hub in peak season (~$15/day for non-residents) — the ride itself is free.
Trams run seasonally and times can change — check current schedules with Walton County before a big beach day.
Topsail Hill Preserve — Day-Use Lot
State-park day-use lot off US-98 · $6/vehicle (free Memorial Day–Labor Day, per the state) · free tram from the lot to the beach · fills on peak days — the gate can close at capacity.

➤ DirectionsDune Allen / Fort Panic — Streetside (30A)
Free, first-come first-served streetside parking on the grass-and-sand shoulder along both sides of 30A, between the Dune Allen and Fort Panic accesses — the local overflow when those two lots fill. Pull off the pavement parallel where there’s room; no painted lines.
Most-used stretches: the north side runs from about Stinky’s Fish Camp east ~0.4 mi; the south side sits just east of the Dune Allen access. There’s more room than that on both sides — this is simply where people park.
⚠ Heavy-enforcement zone — read before you leave the car. Lots of driveways and side streets (block one and you will be towed), and the county has staked off and landscaped many spots specifically to stop parking. Park on a stake or in landscaping and you’ll be towed and most likely fined. Rule of thumb: no sign, no stake, no landscaping = you can park; otherwise stay off.
The 30A walking path crosses from one side to the other along here — never stop or park on it. Walton County Code Compliance patrols 30A actively (Ordinance 2011-01), and getting a towed car back isn’t cheap.
393 Beach Park & Ride

Free, first-come first-served parallel parking along the west & east sides of Hwy 393 and the north side of 30A in Gulf Place, plus the side streets between. It’s a limestone-gravel strip behind a low (~8″) concrete curb — no painted lines, so just pull in parallel off the pavement. Fills fast on busy days, but it turns over quickly as people come and go. You won’t get towed here — a local’s overflow when Ed Walline and the 393 Park & Ride fill up.

Free parking for the Gulf Place town center — shops, restaurants, the Gulley Amphitheater (live music & concerts) and the seasonal farmers market. Park in the open town-center lots off Town Center Loop / Laura Hamilton Blvd.
⚠ Honest catches: this parking is for shopping & dining, not the beach. The individual resort lots in here (Gulf Place Cabanas and the others) are guest-only and marked, and the lot in front of Perfect Pig is customers-only. Park in either and you’ll be towed.
Headed to the sand instead? Use the free Gulf Place streetside spots along 393 & 30A (just above), or the Ed Walline lot.
30A Streetside — Gulf Place East
Free, first-come first-served streetside parking along the south side of 30A in front of Pecan Jack’s ice cream and Papa Surf’s Burger Bar, just east of Gulf Place. Pull off the pavement where there’s room — no painted lines.
You can walk to the beach from here: Ed Walline RBA is just to the west, the Shellseekers Cove access sits at the east end, and Spooky Lane is a short walk. Grab a burger or ice cream on the way back.
Standard rules apply — don’t block travel lanes, driveways, or sight lines, and never park on the 30A path.
Gulfview Heights RBA
~22 spaces · free · serves Gulfview Heights beach · covered picnic pavilion · fills early.

Multiple private lots managed by Seaside Community Development Corp throughout the town center — Smolian Circle, Quincy Circle, and overflow near the Seaside School — all under one Passport Parking system. Pay via the Passport app or Text-To-Pay (look for posted signage).
Rates: $5/hr 8–10 a.m. · $7/hr 10 a.m.–7 p.m. · $5/hr 7–9 p.m.
Complimentary 1-hour and 15-minute spots available for quick visits · golf-cart spaces on Smolian Circle · Tesla Destination Charger on site (3 tight spaces, slow charge, frequently full — don’t rely on it) · Timpoochee Trail runs along the south edge. Guests staying in Seaside Town Center rentals receive parking passes from their rental agency.
Seaside — 30A Streetside Parking
Free, first-come first-served limestone gravel parking along both the north and south sides of 30A through the Seaside corridor. No painted lines — pull in parallel off the pavement where space allows.
North side is the safer bet — fewer driveways and easier to find a clear spot.
⚠ South side caution: significantly more driveways serving shops, restaurants, and loading areas. Blocking one — even briefly — is a fast way to get towed. Look carefully before you leave the car.
Both sides fill quickly on peak days, often before the paid Smolian Circle lots turn over. All standard towing rules apply — no blocking travel lanes, driveways, or sight lines, and never park on the Timpoochee Trail path.
Seaside — Free Shuttle Lot (Hwy 331 S)
Free parking lot off Hwy 331 S — park here and ride the free Seaside Shuttle straight to the Lyceum Archway in the heart of Seaside town center. Shuttle runs daily 6 a.m.–midnight, three shuttles operating at all times, typically under a 5-minute wait. Air-conditioned.
The smart move on peak days — skip the $7/hr Smolian Circle lots and the streetside scramble entirely. A visitor parking at Smolian Circle from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. pays $42. This lot is free.

Eastern Lake Municipal Parking
