Ed Walline Regional Beach Access
The biggest, best-equipped public beach on west 30A — free parking, real restrooms, and room to actually spread out. Here’s how to use it.

A lot of 30A beach accesses are neighborhood walkovers — a boardwalk, maybe a bike rack, and not much room to sit. Ed Walline is the opposite. It’s a full regional access: a real parking lot, restrooms, showers, lifeguards in season, and a wide public beach with plenty of room to lay out a day.
You’ll find it right at the corner of County Road 393 and Scenic 30A, directly across from Gulf Place. If you can only remember one west-30A access, make it this one.

Ed Walline has the biggest free lot on this stretch of 30A — roughly 40 spaces — but on a summer weekend or holiday it fills by mid-morning. The good news: it turns over quickly as beach-day groups come and go.
If the lot’s full, you’ve got options right there:
- The 393 Park & Ride just north of the access
- Street parking along both sides of Hwy 393 and the north side of 30A
- The side streets between (no towing here — but read the signs)
Riding in on a bike or cart? There are racks at the boardwalk, and this is one of the easier accesses to reach off the 30A trail.
Built for a Real Beach Day
This isn’t a path-and-a-prayer access. You can spend the entire day here without hauling half your house back to the car:
- ADA-accessible boardwalks and beach wheelchairs
- Clean restrooms and outdoor rinse showers
- Two covered picnic pavilions and bike racks
- A two-story viewing deck — the only one on the whole corridor
- Seasonal lifeguards (roughly March through October)
Because it faces due south with a wide-open western view, it’s also one of the best sunset spots on 30A.

Room to Sit — Not Just Wet Sand
The beach here is wide and deep, so you get actual dry sand to set up on instead of squeezing onto a strip at high tide. Mornings are quiet and made for walks; midday brings the umbrellas and the lifeguards; evenings belong to sunset watchers.
A few things worth knowing before you go:
- Dogs: leashed, and only before 8 a.m. or after 5 p.m. during the busy season
- Bonfires: allowed with a South Walton permit — this is a genuine bonfire beach
- Sunrise services & events: the community gathers here on Easter morning
You Don’t Have to Pack Everything
The other reason Ed Walline is so easy: Gulf Place is directly across 30A. Forgot lunch, need a coffee, or done for the day and hungry? It’s all a two-minute walk.
Local favorites right there include The Perfect Pig, and Shunk Gulley Oyster Bar sits just up 393 overlooking the access — the same reef the old fishermen launched to gave the restaurant its name. Shops, more restrooms, and a shaded amphitheater round it out.
Know Before You Go
- Parking fills early on summer weekends and holidays — come before 10 a.m. or plan on the Park & Ride.
- Lifeguards are seasonal (about Mar–Oct). Always check the beach flag color before you get in the water.
- Dog hours are enforced in season — leashed, before 8 a.m. or after 5 p.m.
- Bonfires need a permit from South Walton, and glass and alcohol rules apply per Walton County.
