Labor Day is the last big weekend of summer on 30A, and the lots fill just as fast as the 4th of July — the difference is fewer people plan for it. Here’s the honest breakdown.
Ed Walline Fills by Mid-Morning
Ed Walline has the biggest free lot on this stretch of 30A — roughly 40 spaces — but it’s also the one everybody already knows about. Inlet Beach’s free lot and Santa Clara’s 60-space main-plus-overflow setup hold out a little longer, but plan on arriving early either way.
The Honest Catch
- State park gates close when full and stay closed. Grayton Beach, Deer Lake, and Topsail Hill Preserve all charge a per-vehicle fee and gate the entrance — no waitlist, no “come back in an hour.”
- If a state park’s on the plan for Labor Day, go early or don’t count on getting in at all.
Fort Panic and Dune Allen Hold Out Longer
Both tend to stay genuinely less crowded even on the busiest weekends — a little further from the “big name” stops, and it shows in how long the lots hold out. If Ed Walline or Inlet Beach are full, these are worth the extra few minutes’ drive.
